HOW TO FIND THE RIGHT ADVICE?

2 Kings 4:1-7, “Now there cried a certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets unto Elisha, saying, Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD: and the creditor is come to take unto him my two sons to be bondmen.
And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.
Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.
And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.
So she went from him, and shut the door upon her and upon her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured out.
And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.”

In this Bible History, we see a dear family with a lot of problems that have swollen.

1.  She Has a Deceased Husband.  Her husband was faithful and humble, as stated, ‘Thy servant’.  He also was a God fearing man, as revealed in her statement, ‘Thy servant my husband is dead; and thou knowest that thy servant did fear the LORD’

         2. She Has High Debt. She mentions the creditor.

  3.  She Has a Harsh Debt Collector.  He is coming to her house to take her two children into captivity.

In this Happy Ending, we see a dear family with a lot of problems that have been solved.

       1.  She has a Community of Neighbors that helps her,  Elijah tells her to, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.’

   2.  She has Containers Numerous that gave her hope,                                                                ‘And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her, There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.’

  3.  She has a Copious Number that granted her harvest, And it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said unto her son, Bring me yet a vessel. And he said unto her,There is not a vessel more. And the oil stayed.
Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.”

Now, let us look at where her help originated from

       1.  The Counselor, And Elisha said unto her, What shall I do for thee? tell me, what hast thou in the house? “

A.  He offered his counsel, or advise.  He offered his help, and she accepted it.  WE ALL need someone to talk to.  Someone who is genuinely interested and concerned.

B.  Elisha Cared for her.  I Peter 5:7, “Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”  The appeal to cast your care upon Jesus Christ is that HE CARES FOR YOU.  Just knowing that someone cares for you, will give hope, and help relieve burdens.

2.  The Confidence,   “And she said, Thine handmaid hath not any thing in the house, save a pot of oil.”  She put confidence in the Adviser, or Counselor.  She didn’t hide the depths of her problems.  She told entirely what she had and what she didn’t have.

3.  The Course, Then he said, Go, borrow thee vessels abroad of all thy neighbours, even empty vessels; borrow not a few.
And when thou art come in, thou shalt shut the door upon thee and upon thy sons, and shalt pour out into all those vessels, and thou shalt set aside that which is full.”

Elisha told her the plan, and she followed the plan, and received the results she so desperately needed.   “…And the oil stayed.
Then she came and told the man of God. And he said, Go, sell the oil, and pay thy debt, and live thou and thy children of the rest.”
