Five Family Foundations To Fortify The Family

Five Family Foundations To Fortify The Family

  1. Local Church Attendance

Acts 20:28, “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.”

Hebrews 10:25, “Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.”

The Lord Jesus Christ purchased the church with His own blood! We understand that there are two applications to the word “church”.

  1. All Born Again Believers are said to make up His Church. This is the reference for every Born Again Believer as a member of Christ, or a member of His Church.
  2. Local Assemblies. As in Acts 20:28 is addressed to Pastors/Shepherds/Overseers at a physical, visible gathering place. Search the Scriptures and you will find the Church in the Wilderness, House Churches, Churches of specific Cities, and so on. These are actual, real, places of gathering together for worship and spiritual instruction WITH other believers who strengthen each other together!

One of the fundamentals of a healthy family is to go to church together. Parents, don’t SEND your children to church…TAKE THEM!

Get plugged into a good King James Bible Believing Church that will teach sound doctrine and help your family.

Don’t just use church attendance as a “check the box”…or a “stopping off place” on the way to the Restaurant/shopping/beach/etc. Make it the MAIN EVENT!

How often should you go? That is an easy answer…whenever they are having services. Sunday School, Sunday Morning Worship, Sunday Evening, Mid-Week Service, Revivals, Soul Winning, Bus routes, etc.

    1. Family Altar

The Family Altar WILL Alter The Family! This is 100% true. Set aside time when the entire family gathers together. During this time, perhaps scripture is read together, hymns sang in unison, testimonies given for strengthening, and prayer is practiced corporately. There is no better activity to strengthen the family together and bear one another’s burdens and fulfill the law of Christ.

    1. Academic Choice

Education of your children is your choice, Mom and Dad! What will you choose for educating your children? Really there are only two choices to impart wisdom and understanding to a child. Home School or Christian School. You will have to consider the Pros and Cons concerning each one, for both have their strong points and weak points. This will have to be a prayerful choice that you make. Which either one you make, you can be assured that no ill agenda will be taught.

      1. Study of Doctrine

While you are committed to your local church, having family altar time together, educating your children in a holy and wholesome setting, take time to study sound doctrine with your family. 1 Timothy 4:6, “If thou put the brethren in remembrance of these things, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, whereunto thou hast attained.”

You could incorporate this study of doctrine in your family devotions, or you could take a night per week and devote it to family study of doctrine. There are resources available that our ministry can recommend for you to give you a syllabus or working plan to go through the major and minor doctrines of the Word of God. While Family Altar is every day or night, you could have one special day/night or even two per week, to take 45 minutes or so to study doctrine. Establish, root, ground, and develop the foundation of good, sound, right doctrine for your children. Being assured that when you study the authentic, when someone presents false doctrine, it is easily detected and rejected.

        1. Revivals and Retreats

Plan at least one of your family vacations around a revival, camp meeting, retreat, or conference! Lengthening those cords of your family’s spiritual health. Supporting a Youth camp for your children to connect with. Each year they can go to a summer or fall youth camp with your home church, and likely other churches of like precious faith. Your children will be around other children from various other areas. They have the potential of developing life long friendships as well as be challenged by the preaching and activities of every camp.

While these five family foundational suggestions are not “fool proof”, I want to encourage you to implement them!
