Matthew 9:16, “No man putteth a piece of new cloth unto an old garment, for that which is put in to fill it up taketh from the garment, and the rent is made worse.

17 Neither do men put new wine into old bottles: else the bottles break, and the wine runneth out, and the bottles perish: but they put new wine into new bottles, and both are preserved.

18 ¶While he spake these things unto them, behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him, saying, My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live.

19 And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.”

Verse 18, a Daddy has a sick daughter, in so much, she could be even dead at this very moment.

They have exhausted human resources at home, and now SOMEBODY WENT TO JESUS!

Jesus is ALWAYS The Answer!

While you are struggling with how to help your daughter, it has been a taxing to say the least.

You have sought help from local resources, but to no avail.

Vs 16 = you will not strengthen nor improve a garment by adding to the existing material. It won’t hold.

The garment will tear!

Vs. 17 = you cannot take an old bottle and fill it with new wine expecting it to dramatically and miraculously be made FRESH and bring Joy to the home.

The bottle will burst!

Stop trying to improve, change, modify, refresh, or recover your daughter by adding to her existing state.  Or trying to lavish her with gifts, trying to (symbolically) pour new wine into the old bottle.

Notice 3 things:

  1. Daddy Initiated The Approach To Jesus!

It was the ruler himself. He didn’t send his wife, nor another child, nor a friend. He went himself. Even though he is a man of authority. Even though he was a busy man with a lot of responsibilities. DADDY INITIATED THE APPROACH TO JESUS!

  1. Daddy Led In Worship!   (vs. 18, “…behold, there came a certain ruler, and worshipped him,…”

Jesus isn’t looking for a Bible Scholar, or Theologian to worship Him,  He’s just looking for worshippers that will worship Him!

John 4:23, “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.”

  1. Daddy Believed God For The Recovery of His Daughter!   (vs 18, … My daughter is even now dead: but come and lay thy hand upon her, and she shall live….”

Daddy was a man of faith. He exercised faith by taking action and getting to Jesus. Look! Whether you have great faith, or little faith, exercising faith in Jesus is key.

    How did it turn out?

Matthew 9:19, “And Jesus arose, and followed him, and so did his disciples.”

23 , “And when Jesus came into the ruler’s house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise,

24 He said unto them, Give place: for the maid is not dead, but sleepeth. And they laughed him to scorn.

25 But when the people were put forth, he went in, and took her by the hand, and the maid arose.”

Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.”

  1. The daughter was dead so she couldn’t exercise “right now faith”. At this point of her life that she needed change…that she needed a miracle, she could not exercise faith for herself.    Dead people can’t exercise anything!   They are dead.  Ephesians 2:1, “And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;”

  1. The Daddy exercised his “right now faith”  for his daughter. Perhaps Mama had it too!    You see in Mark 5:40, “…But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.”

  1. Even while others mocked, jeered, criticized, made fun of, laughed at this family, they stuck with Jesus, believing Him, bowing to Him, and beseeching Him to help their daughter!

Now let’s look at our lives. Let’s take a serious look at our family’s situation. Do you have a situation, a circumstance, a dilemma that involves one of your children? Your daughter, or your son?

Have you exhausted yourself in finding help for them?

DADDY! Are you a man of faith? Are you a man after God’s own heart? Are you a worshipping man? Are you a believing man? Are you a leading man?

MAMA! Are you a supporting woman? Are you a helpful wife? Are a woman of faith? Are you a lady of spiritual strength? Read about the virtuous woman in Proverbs 31!
